Vehicle Maintenance Inspection CheckList


This Checklist is intended for you to fill it and bring it to a Professional Technician.
 It is not for you to do it yourself.
Trained Technicians have the equipment, tools and know-how to do a job properly and safely.
This Checklist is to provide information that could assist Technicians maintaining your vehicle.
Do not assume all conditions described here apply to your vehicle.

  1 Check vehicle kilometrage against service records for accuracy  
    Engine Compartment  
  2 Hood release, hinges, prop rod or gas struts provide proper operation  
  3 Check finish (rust, corrosion)  
  4 Check factory instruction stickers  
    Engine Condition  
  5 Verify original equipment and displacement  
  6 Valve covers and head gaskets in good condition  
  7 Condition of engine belts, automatic belt tensioner, hoses and wires  
  8 Condition of hose clamps, retainer clips and wire casings  
  9 Look for areas of concentrated dirt or grime  
    Engine Performance  
  10 Engine drivability/performance  
  11 Engine NVH (noise, vibration, and hardness)  
    Engine Running, Noise, Vibration and Hardness  
  12 Check for fluid leaks or valve train noise  
  13 Vacuum system condition  
  14 Fuel delivery system  
  15 Valve cover/cylinder head/exhaust manifold gasket soundness  
  16 Radiator/heater hoses condition  
  17 Power steering pump/hose condition  
  18 No squeaking belts  
    Engine Oil Level/Condition  
  19 Check oil level, verify oil clarity and viscosity  
    Engine Coolant Level/Condition  
  20 Check radiator for leaks and damage and ensure fan shroud is securely in place  
  21 Verify blades of cooling fans are not broken or bent  
  22 Check coolant level, freeze protection rating  
    Air Filter Inspection  
  23 Inspect air filter/filter housing for debris (leaves, bugs)  
    Battery Load Test  
  24 Inspect battery for cracks. Clean and inspect battery top, posts and cables  
  25 Measure battery voltage/conduct load test  
    Ignition System  
  26 Inspect system for loose, cracked or burned wires. Check wire for short-circuits  
    Power Steering Fluid Level  
  27 Inspect power steering fluid level  
    Brake Fluid Level  
  28 Locate and inspect master cylinder reservoir, check brake fluid level  
    Brake System Condition  
  29 Brake rotor/drum surfaces  
  30 Brake pads/shoes have 40% of usable material remaining  
  31 Parking brake operation  
    Brake Operation  
  32 Power assisted braking system is functional  
  33 Anti-lock brake system warning/self-test light is functional  
  34 Anti-lock brake system functional  
  35 Vehicle tracks straight under hard braking conditions  
    Transmission Fluid Level and Condition  
  36 Check clutch fluid reservoir for proper level  
  37 Fluid level meets manufacturer’s specified level, clarity and viscosity  
    Transmission Case Inspection  
  38 Transmission case/pan structurally sound  
    Manual Transmission Operation  
  39 Clutch pedal engagement  
  40 Gear shift engagement  
  41 No transmission noise
